The Things Mimi Brought Home

Narrative mystery · ~2 hours · play in the browser, desktop and mobile

Three.js Web Game JavaScript Vibe Jam

Your person is safe. Somebody else’s person is not.

You play as Mimi, a cat who brings small objects home to Aniela, a writer. When a missing-person flyer appears in the building, Mimi starts to investigate. The missing woman lived at the end of the hall, and the flyer smells of another cat.

You explore an apartment block: six flats, the corridor, the roof and the sewers under the building. You talk to neighbours and animals, and you carry evidence home one object at a time.

I started the game at Vibe Jam 2026 and kept working on it afterwards. It now has a tutorial, a prologue, seven chapters and two endings, and takes about two hours to finish.

What I built

  • Two lines of evidence. The player follows the documents Mimi carries to Aniela’s desk and, separately, what the animals in the building saw. The two lines are never combined for the player.
  • A scent view. Holding a key hides the room and shows smells as trails on the floor. A trail’s brightness shows how long ago someone walked it, and its width shows how often. There are 16 scents and 83 dated trails, all generated from one timeline file.
  • Accessible scents. Each scent has its own shape and pattern, so players can tell them apart without relying on colour. This keeps the game playable in high-contrast mode. Automated tests check this.
  • Chapter summaries. After each chapter, a short summary describes only what Mimi has understood. In-game time moves forward through one day, from morning to 4 a.m.

There is no combat and no way to fail. Puzzles are solved by finding information. Content note: the story includes grief and violence against women. The violence happens off-screen and in the past, and nothing graphic is shown.
